One of the largest municipalities on the coast, Mijas runs from the white village of Mijas Pueblo down to the beaches of La Cala and Calahonda, with golf resorts such as La Cala in between.
It issued more building permits in 2025 than any other coastal town in Spain, so it offers some of the widest choice of new homes, with prices still below many neighbouring areas and the highest gross yield of the eight towns.
Mijas Pueblo, the white village in the hills, has views across the coast and a traditional centre. Down by the sea, La Cala de Mijas is a former fishing village with a long beach and boardwalk, and Calahonda and Riviera del Sol have established communities with pools and gardens.
Between the two, the La Cala Golf resort and areas such as Las Lagunas and El Chaparral offer modern apartments and townhouses in gated communities, many of them new builds.
Day to day, Mijas has international schools, supermarkets and health centres in each area, with Fuengirola and Marbella close by. Málaga airport is around 25 to 30 minutes by car.
